FAQs

Is OSINT legal?

Yes! OSINT techniques include using a variety of tools to locate publicly available information.

Hold the phone, there’s information about me on the internet?

Short answer, tons. Everyone leaves little breadcrumbs on the internet that can be collected and traced with enough patience and know-how. The Case Studies section of the website will have some helpful articles to help keep those breadcrumbs to a minimum and maintain your privacy on the World Wide Web.

Do you dox people?

Absolutely not. Doxxing is dangerous. Not only to the person whose information has been published online but even to their friends, family, neighbors…people you don’t have beef with, and even the poster (someone might dox YOU). In addition to the health and safety of your fellow humans, you will be putting your own freedom at risk. Doxxing is illegal and opens you up to both criminal and civil liability. Don’t dox people. If you feel someone is a threat to other people, do the sane, safe, and reasonable thing. Report them to the website. If they are threatening you personally, alert your local authorities.

What’s your Government name, Muninn?

That’s a cosmic mystery and unpronounceable by mere humans.

Does getting started in OSINT cost a lot?

Nope! Most of the time, when I’m digging for information or verifying information, I use publicly available search engines. That being said, there are paid services and tools out there. In the spirit of Equity and Accessibility, all of my debriefs for challenges will include only free tools and resources.
